FAQs Dermal fillers in Norwich

Learn more on dermal filler treatment. Below are some FAQs around dermal filler.

Does dermal filler hurt?

When administered by a trained professional you should experience minimal discomfort. The dermal filler products that I use contain lidocaine , a local anaesthetic substance, that numbs the skins nerves in the area being treated. When the numbing agent wears off , around 1 hrs time, you can experience some mild discomfort so I would advise over the counter pain relief such as paracetamol. Areas that are more sensitive , like the lips, can mean you may feel more discomfort following the procedure but this can be easily managed with pain relief as mentioned.

Is dermal filler safe?

Yes, when administered by a trained professional with a license to practice which I have. The products that I use, such as Juvederm, have undergone extensive testing to ensure the safety of the product. Hyaluronic acid , the main substance in dermal fillers, naturally occur in our body so work well with your own skin.

Dermal fillers are manufactured, usually through fermentation and cross linking with proteins to produce a clear, sterile gel for injection into the skin. In the UK, there are over 160 brands (and growing) on the market due in some part to weak regulation. Not all hyaluronic acids are the same, each brand has a range of ‘tissue tailored’ products designed for specific results. One size does not fit all. At this clinic we use only tried and tested brands. If you have a particular brand you prefer, please discuss with us. Leading and well established brands include Restylane, Teoxane, Intraline and Juvederm.

Dermal fillers are safe, but not risk free, the medical practitioner will discuss all the risks and benefits with you at consultation and again prior to treatment.

Am I suitable for dermal filler?

The practitioner will take a detailed medical history to ensure you have no conditions that might increase risk of unwanted side effects, consultation is also important to discuss your expectations and whether or not this treatment is able to meet them.

What fillers does the clinic use?

The clinic uses CE marked regulated HA dermal fillers that include Restylane, Teoxane, Juvederm and Intraline. The reason the clinic uses so many different varieties is because the results is shaped around the persons ageing and desired outcomes. For example, the clinic only uses Teoxane Teosyal Redensity II dermal filler in the under eye area as Dr Kara finds that the result is predictable and the finish looks most skin like when the filler reaches its final result in 3 weeks post treatment.

How much filler will I need?

A more accurate estimate can be provided during your initial consultation. Filler comes in different consistencies so you need differing types depending on the area treated to ensure the results look natural. This means that if we were treating e.g. the under eye area, cheek area and smile lines (nasolabial folds) you may be estimated 3 mls in total.

How long will the filler last?

This depends on the type of dermal filler used, area treated and mechanical stress on the area e.g. Lips are a more mobile area so break down filler faster normally ( around 9-12 months). Less mobile areas e.g. noses, under eyes – results will last longer (around 18 months+).
